Our team at Rosedale Dental is available to help the patients of Brampton, ON maintain healthy teeth and gums. We are happy to answer questions in our office, but here are a few that we get often.

How should I prepare for my first visit?

Please arrive about 15 minutes early to complete some paperwork. This will include general patient information as well as insurance information. If you have any special requirements, such as the use of sedation dentistry, please contact us before the day of your appointment to discuss this with our staff.

How often should I visit the dentist?

It is recommended that you visit your dentist twice a year (generally every six months) for a dental cleaning and exam. These visits are important because they help clean your teeth of plaque and tartar that you may have missed in your regular oral care routine and allow your dentist a chance to catch any dental issues that may be developing in their early stages.

Do I really need to floss if I brush regularly?

It’s great that you brush regularly (at least twice a day), but you won’t be able to reach all the spaces in between your teeth. Bacteria can easily collect in these areas and lead to damage to the teeth. Flossing really helps to reduce the collection of bacteria in between your teeth and along the gum line, protecting your teeth from cavities and your gums from periodontal disease.

Why are dental x-rays taken?

During your dental exam, your dentist will thoroughly check your teeth and gums for signs of disease. However, many diseases cannot be seen with the naked eye and can only be revealed with x-rays. These include:

  • Small occurrences of decay in between the teeth or below the gums
  • Infections in the bone
  • Periodontal (gum) disease
  • Abscesses or cysts
  • Developmental abnormalities
  • Some types of tumors

Detecting these issues in their early stages can increase the success of treatment and will save you time and money.

What is fluoride and why do I need it?

Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in the food and water that we consume. It is beneficial to oral health because, when it is absorbed into the teeth, it helps to strengthen teeth enamel, reducing the risk of cavities. For patients who are unable to get a sufficient amount of fluoride on a daily basis, we offer fluoride treatments at Rosedale Dental in Brampton, ON.
